Virtual Mitten Tree

mitten treeWith Your Help We Can Make It Happen!

This Christmas is going to be different than most we have celebrated in many years. The current pandemic has changed the lives of so many around our neighborhood and city.

We have a little money in our Mission & Social Concerns budget for the “Mitten Tree” but need your help to assist these agencies. Your donations of any amount are needed. Donate online by selecting “other church payments” under the Mission Gifts tab or write a check with the words “Mitten Tree” in the memo.

Give To Mitten Tree

We have three volunteers that are willing to shop for you to fill the Mitten Tree requests for Nora’s House and Fairhill Partners.

North East Ohio Recovery Association, Inc.(NORA): Provides outpatient and inpatient substance abuse treatment. The women we are helping this Christmas are in a locked cottage receiving intensive therapy services through individual and group counseling. These ladies all have children who will be brought to visit them before Christmas. With your financial donations we will shop for the gift items that the women will give to their children ages 1-18.

With your financial help, we will be doing the shopping to fill a gift request from one of the grandchildren being raised by their grandparent. As a parent, I know that it is sometimes a challenge to raise just one child, so I can’t even begin to imagine grandparents and sometimes great grandparents raising grandchildren!

We will also purchase items for the following programs as we receive your donations, or you can leave requested items at church where you will find marked boxes for your gifts. The church office is open during normal business hours.

Last year we collected 437 pairs of warm socks that were distributed by JCU students through their Labre ministry program. Each Friday night from Sept – May these students go into our city and give food & socks to people living on our streets – in doorways, under bridges, etc.

This year they are also asking for hand sanitizers, masks, and socks.

It has become our tradition at the January hot meals served to have some small gift for each of our guests. These little surprise gift bags of lotion, toothpaste, toothbrushes, hand soap, tissues, and lip balm will be given out along with the hot meal on Jan. 22nd.

With your financial donations, we will buy some new winter coats and boots. We will gladly accept your gifts of gently used shoes, boots, winter clothing, warm hats and gloves that will be delivered by January 10th.
