Welcome to e-news ... the "latest breaking" news from First Baptist Church.

Farmers Market Launched for Second Season

Whenever I tell people that I shop at farmers markets or that we have one at our church, the question is usually “isn’t that really expensive?” The answer in short is "no.”  Last summer our family decided that if we were going to take part in the market, then we should support it 100%. We made a deal: we would eat entirely from the market except for orange juice and bananas. Everything we ate, from Kay’s bread and granola to milk was purchased at the farmers market.

We ate delicious and healthy food that didn’t break our budget. We had fresh eggs every week, syrup for pancakes, corn, and salads made with lettuce and tomatoes. We had cheese, hotdogs, jam, and made purslan ravioli. Our children loved “shopping” each week from the farmers as we gave them a set amount of money that they could spend and we felt good as parents that they were making healthy choices.

For anyone who thinks “I can’t eat this way” – trust us you can! We can’t wait for this year’s market which will once again have all of our “regular” farmers and Vim Vegan in addition to new farmers, more prepared food such as Nigerian food and streusel.

The market will be open June 8th and run through October 5th every Wednesday from 4-7 pm.  Please come and support local food in Cleveland!
