Christmas Nativity Pageant

One of First Baptist Church’s most beloved annual traditions, our living nativity brings to life the Christmas story into our sanctuary with a large host of live animals, choirs, soloists, musicians and the newborn baby Jesus. The church fills up as we celebrate with traditional hymns and new selections of music, as we participate together in the celebration of the birth of Jesus.

An Artist’s Reception for Kara Hungate

Kara HungateThose magnificent paintings you have noticed in our FBC Fairmount Gallery were all produced by FBC member Kara Hungate, an accomplished artist, and art instructor. Representing several different media Kara has put together an eclectic and interesting show that we think you will greatly enjoy.

Excerpts from Kara’s Artist Statement include the following:

“A Native Clevelander, my interest in art began in childhood and has evolved over the years. Exposure to each new art technique confirmed my interest in art and I realized it was a love worthy of further pursuit.”

“My interest in teaching and my love for children prompted me to pursue a career in art as an artist, educator, and administrator, which I pursued in 1998 in Cleveland.”

“Artistic goals such as creativity, seeking inspiration through imagination, and the free act of expression are important to my own artistic spirit and voice.”

Kara will talk about her craft in this casual setting and will be happy to answer your questions. Please plan to observe her artwork, and to join her for an hour of enlightening conversation.

Unified Together In Worship

“TOGETHER IN WORSHIP”

Combined Services at 10 AM Sundays

The combined worship services during the summer will be spiritually uplifting, innovative, and have broad opportunities for personal interaction and involvement. All of the creative talents of the church family will be involved over the summer including the Staff, Chancel and Bell Choirs, the Praise Team and Band, Youth and Children.

Each Sunday morning the 10 AM service will be preceded by a 9:30 AM Gathering Time in the Courtyard at which coffee, tea, bagels, donuts, and/or other tasty delights will be available until 9:55 AM (stopping then to enable you to go into the Sanctuary for the service). An enhanced Coffee Hour in the Courtyard will follow each Sunday service.

Each Sunday will have a theme designed to offer some diversity in the focus of the service. The theme for the first four Sundays in the “Together in Worship” season are as follows:

10 AM Sunday, June 11 – Format Introduction Sunday – Prepare to be Surprised!

Wear your mismatched clothes because it is God confidence month. This is a day to get used to the new starting time, and some innovations to the general format of the service.

10 AM Sunday, June 18 – “Wacky-Tacky-Tie” Day

Wear your most outrageous neck tie or scarf. Tacky Ties will be available if you don’t have one.

10 AM Sunday, June 25 – Support your Favorite Sport Team Day

Wear bright colors or your favorite sports team wear.

10 AM Sunday, July 2 – Red, White and Blue Day

Dress in your best red, white and/or blue outfits to celebrate the birth of our nation. Special patriotic music will be featured.

Lots of other themes are being considered for the balance of the summer. Prepare to be surprised and grati-fied each Sunday by innovations that will enhance your worship experience.  We will have a picnic after service.
