Your Ordinary Shoebox Can Make a Child’s Christmas Special

FBC is launching “Operation Christmas Child” in the month of October, as a means of sharing the good news of Jesus with children across the world.  Anita Bartel is spearheading this effort, which sends an ordinary shoebox, loaded with inexpensive toys and the gospel message in their native language, to children in foreign countries – many of whom have never received a Christmas gift before.  These shoebox gifts share God’s love in a real, tangible way that children understand, and have the potential to change lives forever.  Click here to watch a 2-minute Youtube video showing the results of these shoeboxes.

More than 50 boxes have already been promised by church members, but we’re hoping for many more!  If you would like to participate, speak with Anita Bartel for instructions, call the church office, or give a financial gift marked “shoeboxes” and we’ll do  the shopping for you.  Let’s help make this a joyous Christmas across the world!

Rev. Dr. Kregg Burris

Rev. Dr. Kregg Burris Called As Senior Pastor!

At a church meeting on August 30, the congregation voted overwhelmingly to extend a call to Rev. Dr. Kregg Burris as the new Senior Pastor of First Baptist Church. Rev. Burris is currently pastor of First Baptist Church of Bedford, Indiana, a church of 350, where he has served for ten years. Kregg and his wife Ann intend to be present in worship beginning Sunday, October 11.

Dr. Burris has been a pastor for 29 years, and has served churches in Illinois, Indiana, West Virginia and Ohio. He earned his Doctorate of Ministry from Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary in 2003, and holds two Masters degrees from Trinity Evangelical Seminary. But what you’ll immediately notice is that Kregg loves people, and wants to build relationships within the church and within the community. Kregg is excited about the ministry possibilities in Cleveland, and the church is excited to begin a new partnership with Kregg, following a lengthy search process.

Welcome, Kregg and Ann!
